Gabriel Awosika
Director and Principal Solicitor

Gabriel Awosika is the Principal at Astute Legal Solicitors & Advocates and has over 10 years of combined legal practice and local authority experience.

Gabriel prioritises providing his clients with practical solutions and ‘clarity in the complexity’.

Prior to qualifying as a Solicitor, Gabriel was a Civil Servant for two London local authorities where he developed and honed his knowledge in Housing Law. He then moved on to Plexus Law where he gained further experience.

Gabriel also has a range of experience in Law firm management and providing regulatory training. He is also actively involved in the areas of Sports and Entertainment, whereby he currently represents footballers across the English Leagues and many award-winning musicians across Europe. He focuses on providing rights management, sponsorship, partner agreements, image rights, terms and conditions, broadcasting, merchandising, endorsements, licensing and website agreements.

Gabriel holds a Degree in Law, LLB (hons), a Masters Degree in Law, LLM (lond), a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and a Post-graduate Diploma in Housing. He is also a Registered FA Intermediary registration number: IMS003074.

Claudia Vieira
European Qualified Lawyer

Claudia Vieira was born in Rio de Janeiro and  has achieved a Master’s degree in International Law from the University of Lisbon. Claudia is a qualified Lawyer in Brazil and Portugal and is SRA registered. Claudia specialises in Immigration law, Civil Litigation and Family Law.

Claudia is fluent in English and Portuguese.

Emma Burnett

Alexander Phillips
Consultant Solicitor

Alexander Phillips is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales and also a New York Attorney. He specialises in Civil Litigation and has extensive experience in Commercial and Property disputes.Aside from his legal knowledge, Alexander has accumulated many years of business experience in both management and accounts; both areas which add to the array of skills which he brings to Astute and to the personal service with which he so effectively serves clients.

Sena Frimpong

Sena Frimpong is currently a Barrister at Astute Legal Solicitors & Advocates. He was called to the Bar in 2009 and now practices in all of the major areas of civil litigation with a particular emphasis on housing and property law.

He has acted for a diverse range of clients in all stages of the judicial process, (advising, drafting and representing clients at hearings). He has considerable experience in cases concerning possession, homelessness, succession, disrepair, mortgage matters and LVT cases.

Sena has also worked on judicial review cases both for and against local authorities

Sena also places great importance on his pro bono work, focusing on assisting those in ‘housing need’. He has worked extensively with the Croydon Housing Aid Society which is closely affiliated to the South West London Law Centres.

Sena holds a Degree in Law, LLB (hons) and is a member of Lincoln’s Inn.

Professor Cedric Bell

Professor Bell is Consultant at Astute Legal Solicitors & Advocates and has many years of experience as a barrister, a well known international academic entrepreneur and author. He is also an experienced conference speaker.

Professor Bell qualified, taught and has practised law in the UK for a number of years. His areas of practice expertise are Land Law, Wills & Probate, Legal Practice Management and teaching ‘Lawyering Skills’. For a number of years he was In- House Counsel and Director of Training at a large Lancashire firm of solicitors. Further, he combines his legal expertise with a successful track record of high level practical corporate management leadership.

He was for ten years Chief Executive of Holborn College in London, a leading private sector law and business College in the UK, which he built up and then sold on to the US Washington Post Kaplan Group.

Professor Bell is currently the Pro Vice-Chancellor of a large Malaysian University and he has been a Professor of Law since 1996 with a number of UK Universities.

He was an active participant on the legal conference and seminar circuit for over 25 years in the UK and has authored over forty articles in the legal press and four law textbooks.

Professor Bell holds a Degree in Law, LLB (hons), a Masters Degree in Law, LLM, and a Doctorate (Ph.D) from the University of Birmingham. He is also a member of Middle Temple.

Janaka Siriwardena

Janaka enjoys a broad practice of Crime, Civil, Immigration and Motoring law.

Prior to completing his pupillage at Goldsmith chambers, Janaka had a long and eclectic career in Education, IT and E Commerce in countries ranging from Japan and Siberia to Sri Lanka. He has used his experience of life to sensitively work with many challenging clients and also to obtain outstanding and unexpected results. He is known for his tenacity in the most difficult of cases. This includes, obtaining a Not Guilty verdict for a person with Learning Difficulties accused of making over 100 malicious calls to the Police and restricting the driving ban to only 2 weeks for a driver speeding at more than 110mph.


Janaka is primarily a Defence barrister but he also works as a Prosecutor to benefit from the undeniable insight it brings while working both in the Magistrates’ Courts and Crown Court. He has successfully acted in many trials, case management hearings, sentencing hearings and breach proceedings. Recently, he obtained a Not Guilty verdict for his client in a two month Crown Court trial with 11 defendants for Immigration Fraud.


Janaka receives broad civil instructions for both Claimants and Defendants and he has dealt with Fast and Multi-track trials for Breach of Contract, Leasehold disputes, and Bankruptcy, Landlord and Tenant and Employment matters. He is also instructed in matters ranging from Injunctions, neighbour disputes and Non-molestation Orders.


Janaka has a thriving Immigration practice. He regularly appears in both the Lower and Upper Tribunals and he has travelled to centres around the country to successfully obtain bail for those facing Removal. Always having an interest in EU Law, and given the recent events, Janaka now advises European citizens intending to remain in the UK and those businesses who wish to maintain effective trade links with the EU.


Janaka regularly prosecutes in the Traffic Courts and he uses his experience to great effect to assist those accused of Drink Driving, Speeding, having no insurance and Dangerous/Careless Driving.

Outside Interests:

Janaka is the Assistant Treasurer of The Association of Sri Lankan Lawyers in the UK. He takes part in many activities to widen participation in the Legal Profession.
